Civil Rights Breakfast w/ Congressman John Lewis & Dr. C.T. Vivian

On August 24, 2013, at 7:45 am on Bolling AFB, the Brothers of Sigma Sigma Sigma (Tri-Sigma) Chapter, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated will host a breakfast recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington DC.  We are  especially excited and honored two pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement who will join us for “Breakfast and Conversations.”, Congressman John Lewis, “The Boy from Troy” and Reverend Dr. C.T. Vivian (President of SCLC, prominent activist at the forefront of many of the civil rights movements most dramatic actions, and close personal friend of Martin Luther King, Jr.).

Congressman John LewisBoth Congressman Lewis and Dr. Vivian were key members of the Civil Rights Movement and part of the planning team for
the March on Washington.  We consider it an honor to be able to sit and listen to them discuss their firsthand account of the fateful March fifty years ago.  In addition, they will also discuss some of the driving factors that fueled the March such as the Civil Rights Act, Jim Crow Segregation, the coming together of the “Big Six”, and the organizations each of these pivotal figures represented.

As an organization committed to social and economic education, Tri-Sigma, under the umbrella of Phi Beta Sigma, is committed to providing programs such as “Breakfast and Conversations with Congressman John Lewis and Reverend C.T. Vivian.”  While this will be an intimate breakfast with two living legends, it will also provide an opportunity to share a critical piece of American history.  In addition, it will also serve as an opportunity to educate those of us who are not aware of the foundation that was laid by these two selfless individuals.  It is our hope that at its conclusion, some young person, man, or woman will be inspired to take up the torch and carry on in their footsteps.  This is an opportunity to take what you learn on August 24th and share with others so that we may never forget the sacrifices that were made for us to enjoy the many freedoms we have today.
